Gynaecologist specialising in hysteroscopy in Florence

Dr. Eleonora Castellacci graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Siena with a degree thesis on "Pharmacological strategies in the conservative treatment of uterine fibromatosis". She completed her studies at the University Clinic of Careggi, obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the School of Specialisation in Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Florence with a specialisation thesis: "Morphological and cytological evaluation of the endometrium with sonohysterography: from fertile age to the menopause, from physiology to pathology", thus being able to become passionate about the "hysteroscopic world" from the very first years of her specialisation.

Currently a member of the board of directors of the Italian Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (SEGi), Dr Castellacci has set herself the goal of making this technique painless for women, thanks also to the technological evolution that has contributed over the years to extending its diagnostic and therapeutic power, introducing water as a means of distension, with increasingly thinner instruments and more and more preformant vision systems.

In this way, the woman, who can actively follow the procedure, now becomes the real protagonist of the examination.

Dr. Castellacci currently works in one of the major centres of reference for Italian hysteroscopy as well as a regional centre of excellence, the Palagi Hospital in Florence, and is also the scientific head of the annual 'Italian Hysteroscopy Reference in Europe' Congress, where the leading experts in this field discuss the new 'Save the uterus' surgical instruments and techniques.

Dr Castellacci also practices in one of Florence's most historic nursing homes, Villa Donatello, a highly technological facility with dedicated operating theatres and state-of-the-art medical equipment, such as lasers.

Gynaecology practice with state-of-the-art diagnostics

New diagnostic and therapeutic paths without risk and without pain. Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive and painless technique that allows the uterine cavity to be studied through a very thin instrument containing a mini camera.

The patient, in the case of diagnostic hysteroscopy, can serenely follow the examination on the screen (as if it were an ultrasound).

The most common reasons for which diagnostic hysteroscopy is recommended are: bleeding during menopause or between cycles during fertile age, infertility and polyabortion, ultrasound findings of endometrial thickening, polyps or fibroids.

The quality of life for many women after the age of 40-50 can deteriorate due to vaginal disorders such as dryness, burning, and urinary incontinence that can occur during pre-menopause or after childbirth. The cause is often atrophic vaginitis: a disorder that can have many effects on the quality of life and the couple's relationship. Dr Eleonora Castellacci performs the painless, minimally invasive laser treatment of vaginal rejuvenation with no pain, no side effects, in just a few minutes, called MonnaLisaTouch™.
